Growing up in India, surrounded by vibrant textiles and architecture, I developed an appreciation for decorative forms. I explore their aspects of colour, pattern and symmetry through painting, photography and digital collage. Terms like ‘dark energy’ from recent space exploration have sparked my curiosity about the unknown. Playfully merging scientific curiosity with the spirit of the 1980s Pattern and Design movement, I invite viewers to reflect on the mysteries of the universe and the joy of decorative forms.

This experimental project challenges the conventional role of the camera as a mere recorder of reality. Instead, I wield my camera as a tool to capture the essence of movement, producing images of ephemeral beauty that defy physical existence. My process is a delicate dance between control and surrender. I meticulously prepare for each shoot, yet once the shutter is released, I relinquish all control, allowing chance and accident to shape the outcome.  The results are a surprise, and I get deep pleasure in discovering the mysterious images that evoke a sense of both fragility and energy.

Photograms are made by placing objects directly onto the surface of a light sensitive material and then exposing it to light. These photograms were made in the dark room, exposing 20 individually coated A4 size paper to light from an enlarger that passed through patterned transparencies.
